Case Studies - Nestlé E-mail
Nestlé
Nestlé’s food processing plant in Springville, Utah was faced with the need for a large deployment of PC’s, displays and keyboards. During contemplation of things like what electronics to use Nestlé knew they had a compacted time frame and harsh ambient environment to deal with as well. While planning implementation of this solution they knew to be mindful of the need to protect their electronics from a harsh ambient environment with chemical wash down as required by the FDA, but also keep the solution functional for day to day operations. As if all of these obstacles weren’t enough there was the additional challenge of keeping the cost of a prospective solution under capital budget restraints.

When Nestlé decided to put electronics on their production floor they knew they were going to have to deal with a harsh ambient environment; intense heat, bitter cold (in their freezer areas) and substantial moisture. As is commonly known, electronics don’t typically mix well in these types of environments, so Nestlé knew they needed to enclose the electronics, but weren’t sure how to accomplish this as the IT staff had not been faced this type of challenge before. Knowing they were going to need experienced assistance Nestlé turned to ITSENCLOSURES to provide advice and skilled consultation in enclosing their electronics against the various challenges in their production environment.
ITS stepped in and assessed the environment, including the challenges of heat, cold and chemical wash down and made a recommendation that an enclosure rated NEMA 4X stainless steel would best suit this type of environment. Stainless Steel’s properties lend it well to withstanding harsh chemical wash down without leaving bacterial residue, not to mention that properly equipped stainless enclosures will assist in combating excessive thermal challenges as well. Enclosure design was dictated by requirement to use off the shelf PC systems including desktop monitors. ITS assisted Nestlé in choosing the correct enclosures, as well as proper input (keyboard & mouse) devices. ITS was instrumental in assessing and recommending choices for functionality, survivability and productivity in Nestlé’s enclosure solutions.

Once seeing all of the options available Nestlé decided to work with ITSENCLOSURES as all of the challenges were addressed and thought was put forth regarding engineering solutions for productivity as well. ITS worked closely with Nestlé during the design and production phase of the process to be sure all concerns and functionality issues were addressed prior to finalizing a design. Once prototype units were complete and all tests on these units performed, Nestlé was ready to move forward and engage ITS to provide a complete enclosure solution for their plant.
ITS provided all engineering, design and production facets of this opportunity and managed the distribution in a scheduled manner working closely with Nestlé’s IT staff to assure timely delivery and continue to work through any detail issues as well. This allowed for a practical solution with the benefit of teamwork from staff members of both companies to insure a fully functional solution for Nestlé.
